Who can attend the Summer Writing Program?

The SWP is open to anyone over the age of 18 for non-credit.

Can participants under 18 attend the SWP?

Students under 18 are able to take the program; however, the program is designed for adults and there are a several stipulations. Students under the age of 18 need to submit a letter of consent from a parent or guardian, as well as a letter of recommendation from a writing mentor. There are also weekly check-ins with SWP staff. Additionally, an interview or writing sample may be requested as part of the registration process. Please contact the SWP office for additional information: SWP@naropa.edu.

When and where is the program?

The SWP is held on Naropa University's Arapahoe Campus in Boulder, Colorado. This year’s program will begin Sunday, June 14 and end July 11, 2015. The program runs Monday through Saturday each week.

When can I register?

Public registration will open March 16, 2015. Participants may enroll in the program until Friday at 3:30 pm of the previous week before the course.

How much is the program?

The price of the course depends if you are taking it for credit or non-credit. For 2015, each week for noncredit students is $500 (a small discount of $1900 for all four).  For-credit pricing is $995 per credit with 2 credits per week for graduate students and 1.5 credits per week for undergraduates.

    • Non-credit = $500 per week
    • For credit = $995 per credit hour
    •  $1990 per week for grad credit (2 x $995)
    • $1492.50 per week for undergrad (1.5 x $995)

Is housing available?

Weekly housing is available for SWP students at Snow Lion. Housing is available for one, two, three or all four weeks of the SWP.

Reservations are made by completing the Summer Writing Program Snow Lion Reservation form.

Summer Housing Rates 2015:

  • $350 per week (shared room)
  • $525 per week (private room)
  • $700 per week (private apartment)

What is included in tuition?

Tuition covers the course curriculum only.

Are there meal plans?

SWP does not offer meal plans at this time. However, our on-campus café offers many low cost meals and snacks, including gluten free and vegan options.

Is there financial aid?

The Summer Writing Program offers at least two scholarships each year. Zora Neale Hurston scholarships are available to non-Naropa students. Please visit our financial aid page for more information. Financial aid applications are due April 1st, 2015.
